Dawn Treader Christian School invites you to our inaugural "Turkey Ball Classic" 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament! Gather your squad, hit the court, and battle it out for ultimate bragging rights and fantastic prizes. This tournament is an opportunity to foster sportsmanship, build community, and raise vital funds for Dawn Treader Christian School, helping us continue to provide quality education and a nurturing environment for our students in Paterson.


Create a team of 3-4 players or join as a free agent.  If you join as a free agent then we will assign you to a team.

When: Friday, November 15, 2025

Doors open at 9:00 AM, Games begin at 10:00 AM

Where: Eastern Christian Middle School, Wyckoff, NJ


Cost: $100 per player (minimum 3 players, maximum 4 per team)

Early Bird Registration Deadline: October 1, 2025: $100

Registration from 10/2- 10/15: $125 per player

Tournament Guidelines:

  • Set Times on November 15 throughout the day
  • Minimum of 3 Games
  • 12 Minutes/Game
  • 3-4 Players/Team
  • Recruit your friends, teammates, siblings and cousins
  • Create your own teams
  • Players coach themselves
  • Referees will assist players with subs  
  • No spectator admission fees
  • A 50/50 raffle will be offered

General Rules & Regulations:


Team Composition:

  • Each team must consist of a minimum of three (3) players and a maximum of four (4) players.
  • All players must be registered with their team prior to the tournament start. No substitutions after the tournament begins

Equipment:

  • Basketballs will be provided by the tournament organizers.
  • Players must wear appropriate athletic attire and non-marking court shoes.
  • Jewelry is discouraged and worn at the player's own risk.  No earrings please!

Sportsmanship:

  • Good sportsmanship is paramount. Unsportsmanlike conduct, including but not limited to excessive arguing with officials, fighting, or abusive language, will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament without refund.
  • Tournament organizers reserve the right to remove any individual or team from the event for disruptive or inappropriate behavior.

3 on 3 League Rules

Game Play:

  • Each game is 12-minutes with a running clock
  • There are no timeouts during a game
  • Games will be played on a single hoop in a half court setting
  • If a team only has two players, a third player will be added to their team
  • A referee will call fouls, enforce game rules, assist with substitutions, etc.
  • A scorekeeper will keep track of the score, fouls, assist with substitutions, etc.


Scoring:

  • All field goals are worth 2 points (no 3-pointers!)
  • A foul committed in the act of shooting:
  • If field goal is not made, player receives one free throw attempt worth 2 points
  • If the field goal is made, player receives one free throw attempt worth 1 point
  • Additional notes on free throws:
  • One “bonus” free throw will be awarded to a player when an opposing team commits a 5th and subsequent team foul – a made free throw is worth 1 point
  • The free throw line will be moved closer for 3rd grade players
  • Intentional fouls - no matter when they occur - will result in 2 points plus the ball.

 Game Rules

  • Before each game, the referee will:
  • Review court boundary and key lines
  • Review scoring, game rules, and substitutions 
  • Discuss proper sportsmanship
  • “Rock, paper, scissors” will determine initial possession of the ball
  • A player must check the ball to start the game and a pass must be made to start play
  • When a team scores a field goal or a free throw, a player from the non-scoring team shall resume play by checking the ball and a pass must be made to start play
  • On a live ball change of possession - steals, blocks, defensive rebounds, etc. - a team member must return the ball and have both feet past the designated take back line before advancing the ball on an offensive possession
  • On a dead ball change of possession, the inbound will occur after the ball is checked, with a pass, at the top of the key
  • In the event of a jump ball, teams take turns possessing the ball
  • If a game ends in a tie, the teams will compete in a free throw shootout
  • Free throws will be attempted, alternately, until one team makes the free throw and the other team misses the free throw
  • Teams must have a shooting order in which players take their turns shooting free throws.

Substitutions & Coaching Rules:

  • Unlimited substitutions are allowed when the ball is not in play
  • Players are responsible for managing their own substitutions
  • Refs and scorekeepers will monitor and assist with substitutions when needed
  • Players will coach themselves
  • Parents are not allowed to coach from the sidelines


III. Tournament Format:

  1. Pool Play/Round Robin:
  2. Teams will be divided into pools and play a round-robin schedule within their pool to determine seeding for the playoff bracket.
  3. Playoff Bracket:
  4. Top teams from each pool will advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket.
  5. Tie-breakers (for Pool Play):
  6. Head-to-head record
  7. Point differential
  8. Fewest points allowed
  9. Coin toss (if still tied)
  10. Awards Ceremony:
  11. An awards ceremony will be held immediately following the championship games.

  • Dawn Treader Christian School and tournament organizers are not responsible for any injuries sustained during the tournament. Participants play at their own risk.
  • The tournament schedule is subject to change. Teams will be notified of any changes.
  • All proceeds from the tournament will benefit Dawn Treader Christian School.
  • By registering for this tournament, all participants agree to abide by these rules and guidelines.
